Interdisciplinary Studies in Medical and Molecular Sciences (BS)

  • Utilize scientific principles (e.g., physiology, immunology, chemistry, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, etc..) as applicable to industry or other entities
  • Apply statistical tests to data sets and interpret results accurately
  • Correlate diagnostic testing results with disease states identifying critical values and significance
  • Communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Exhibit ethical behavior and professionalism, maintain patient confidentiality
  • Critically evaluate ethical issues and apply ethical principles to various scenarios
  • Work collaboratively & independently within and across a variety of cultural contexts and a spectrum of differences
  • Understand and utilize algorithms toward a disease process
  • Apply evidence-based practices across multiple disciplines
  • Discuss the roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team

University Requirements:


Major Requirements


A minimum grade of C- is required for MMSC Core Courses. The IS-MMSC Major requires completion of one minor. There are 12 eligible minor programs delineated in the Minor Requirement Section. Note that courses for the eligible minors may not be offered every semester and pre-requisites may apply. Coursework used to satisfy major requirements may simultaneously satisfy the second writing and/or additional breadth requirements when eligible.

Second Writing Requirement


A Second Writing Requirement approved by the College of Arts and Sciences. This course must be completed with a minimum grade of C-, and the section must be designated as satisfying the requirement in the academic term completed.

English


  • Any English course at the 200-level or above
    • Many English courses also can satisfy the Creative Arts and Humanities Breadth requirement and/or the Second Writing Course Requirement

Additional Breadth Requirement


From the list of University Breadth courses, an additional three credits must be taken to meet the requirements for the major:

  • Creative Arts and Humanities or History and Cultural Change or Social and Behavioral Sciences

After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.
