Program Educational Goals
The Finance major at the University of Delaware established the following learning objectives based on the guiding principles established by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) to ensure student success. The program uses course grades and assessments of assignments to ensure that these objectives are met. Finance graduates from the University of Delaware will be able to: - Comprehend time value of money principles, the operation of financial markets, the relation between risk and expected return, the measurement of diversification benefits, and other tools utilized in financial risk management.
- Evaluate firm performance and investment opportunities, estimate risk premiums, value assets and financial securities, and evaluate capital structure and dividend policies to facilitate effective decision making.
- Analyze economic, financial market, and company specific data to improve financial decisions and strategic planning.

Major Requirements:
All courses required for the major will have a minimum grade of C-. This includes all breadth classes and all other required coursework (besides free elective courses). Applicability of transfer coursework to Lerner majors: Coursework at the 300-level or higher may be transferred from AACSB-accredited institutions only unless credit is earned through an approved articulation agreement or approved study abroad program. Courses at the 100- and 200-level may be transferred from any institution following UD’s standard transfer credit policy. Only one of the following courses may be transferred: FINC 311, FINC 312, FINC 314, FINC 412, FINC 415, FINC 416, FINC417, FINC 419, FINC 430, FINC 462.
Only two of the following courses may be transferred: ACCT 207, ACCT 315, ACCT 350, ACCT 351, ACCT 352, BUAD 301, BUAD 306, BUAD 309, BUAD 441, ECON 101, ECON 103, ECON 308, MISY 160, MISY 261. FINC 413 must be completed at the University of Delaware.
Major Breadth Requirements:
- Twelve credits of Creative Arts and Humanities, and/or History and Cultural Change, and/or foreign language courses. Foreign language courses can include ARAB, FREN, CHIN, GRMN, GREK, HEBR, ITAL, JAPN, KORE, LATN, PORT, RUSS, SPAN at the 100-level or above. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement.
- Six credits from Social & Behavioral Sciences. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement excluding ECON 101, ECON 103, BUAD 301 and BUAD 309.
- Seven credits from Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology, including one Lab credit (ECON 415 , CISC, STAT, and MATH courses may not apply). Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement. Acceptable courses to satisfy lab requirement include:

- Three credits from ACCT, BUAD, ENTR, FINC, or MISY (300-level or higher) (ACCT 302 , ACCT 350 and ACCT 351 may not apply).Courses used to satisfy major requirements may not apply. Cross-listed courses may apply.
Electives:
After required courses are completed, sufficient credits must be taken to meet the minimum credits required for the degree. Only one of MISY 261 or ACCT 302 will count towards minimum total credits in this major. Electives courses can be chosen from inside or outside the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, and no more than two credits from HBNS 120 may apply.
