Business Analytics - Sport Management Concentration (BS)

1.    Apply data analysis methods to explain and enable better decision-making and storytelling.
2.    Model and create databases based on business requirements and query databases using query languages.
3.    Understand end-to-end machine learning workflow and basic supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms.
4.    Engage in data collection, cleaning, and management.
5.    Talk knowledgeably and confidently about how to apply machine learning tools to solve real world business problems.
6.    Obtain the skills necessary to understand and learn new tools.
7.    Explore the behavioral and organizational foundations of ethical and unethical workplace behavior.  Apply theories of ethics to guide future decision-making.
8.    Choose appropriate probability distributions for modelling real-world phenomena.
9.    Use computational Bayesian inference tools to allocate plausibility over potential generative models of real-world phenomena.
10.    Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations using plain language and compelling data visualizations.
11.    Apply machine learning techniques to analyze data.
12.    Recognize problems in business situations where formal management science techniques can be applied.
13.    Develop skills for data gathering, model formulation, and analysis of results to aid in decision-making.
14.    Distinguish between types of models based on data available/analysis needs:  from optimization, decision analysis, simulation, and others; recognize each method's limitations and applicability.
15.    Analyze problems and communicate solutions for implementation using case data and software.
16.    Explore the role of analytics in guiding business decision-making. 
17.    Master machine learning techniques to deal with unstructured data.
18.    Design and implement causal analytics techniques to support core business decisions.
19.    Solve real-world business problems with analytical models and tools.
20.    Demonstrate skills in data analysis methods and in data analytic tools.
21.    Develop data-driven solutions to support decision-making in real-world business situations.
22.    Identify and understand ethical and equitable challenges present in the use of business data itself.
23.    Students will acquire subject matter expertise in sport management to understand the nuances of data and metrics used in sport management.

Major Requirements:


All courses required for the major will have a grade minimum of C-. This includes all breadth classes and all other required coursework (besides free elective courses).

Applicability of transfer coursework to Lerner majors:  Coursework at the 300-level or higher may be transferred from AACSB-accredited institutions only unless credit is earned through an approved articulation agreement or approved study abroad program. Courses at the 100- and 200-level may be transferred from any institution following UD’s standard transfer credit policy.

Only one of the following courses may be transferred: ACCT 320, ACCT 350, ACCT 352, BUAD 345, BUAD 346, BUAD 424, BUAD 442, MISY 225, MISY 262, MISY 330, MISY 331, MISY 408, MISY 435, MISY 436, MISY 455. 

Only two of the following courses may be transferred:ACCT 207, ACCT 208, BUAD 301, BUAD 306, BUAD 309, ECON 101, ECON 103, FINC 311, MISY 160, MISY 261.


 MISY 445 and three of the four concentration courses must be completed at the University of Delaware. 



Major Breadth:


  • Twelve credits of Creative Arts and Humanities, and/or History and Cultural Change, and/or Language-other-than-English courses.  Language-other-than-English courses can include ASLC, GREK, ARAB, PORT, CHIN, FREN, GRMN, HEBR, ITAL, JAPN, KORE, LATN, RUSS, SPAN at the 100-level or above. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement.
  • Six credits from Social and Behavioral Sciences (Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement, excluding ECON 101, ECON 103, BUAD 301, and BUAD 309).
  • Six credits of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement, excluding CISC, STAT, 100-level MATH courses, MATH 221, MATH 230, MATH 231, MATH 232, and MATH 241.

Business Analytics Major Core:


This is the set of classes, absent the professional concentrations.

Concentration requirements


C- or better required in all concentration classes.

Electives:


After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.
