Health Sciences (AS)

Associate of Science in Health Sciences (ASHS) graduates will be able to demonstrate:

  1.  Foundational knowledge and understanding of health sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biology, nutrition and basic concepts in public health, ensuring they have a strong foundation to pursue further education or entry-level roles in the healthcare workforce or health-related fields.
  1. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills used to analyze health-related problems, apply scientific principles to solve problems, and make informed decisions based on evidence-based practices in health care settings.
  1. Knowledge and skills in health promotion and disease prevention to educate individuals, families, and communities about health maintenance, disease prevention, and wellness strategies, fostering a proactive approach to health care.
  1. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary for effective interaction with patients, health care teams, and the community, emphasizing professionalism, ethical communication, cultural competence, safe patient care and confidentiality.

  • Credit(s): 3 (C- minimum)
  • First Year Seminar (FYS) (0-4 credits)

  • Multicultural Requirement (3 credits)

  • University Breadth Requirements (C- minimum)      Creative Arts and Humanities (3 credits)      History and Cultural Change (3 credits)      Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 credits)      Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology (3 credits)

After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.  Students may opt to take one free elective per semester pass/fail, but the total number of credits taken on a pass/fail basis may not exceed 12, excluding courses that are graded pass/fail only.
