BA/MS 4+1 Program Requirements

The interdisciplinary Master of Science in Bioinformatics Data Science (MS) offers combined 4+1 Bachelors and MS programs that allow students to complete both the Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science and the Master’s degree in Bioinformatics Data Science in a total of five years of full-time study. Up to 6 credits of graduate course work (600 level and above) taken while an undergraduate, may be “dual-counted” toward the Bachelor’s and the Master’s degrees. The dual-counted courses must be established classes in Bioinformatics Data Science at the 600 level and above to be applied toward satisfying the requirements of both degrees. Students may choose the non-thesis or the thesis option. The thesis option may require more time. All requirements of both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs must be satisfied.

Students applying to a BA/MS 4+1 program must be in the spring semester of their junior year of study at the University of Delaware or have completed 75 credits toward their undergraduate degree. They must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 in their major and an overall cumulative index of 3.0 is required in undergraduate study. Applicants are expected to have scholarly competence in mathematics, computer science and/or biology. Applicants need to submit an unofficial UD transcript, a completed Graduate Course Approval Form for 4+1 Admissions Application and a completed 4+1 Application. The application to this option is reviewed by the Bioinformatics Data Science Admissions Committee.

Complete information on requirements, admissions policies, and current events for the MS in Bioinformatics Data Science program can be found on its website at https://bioinformatics.udel.edu
