Problematic Discipline Practices - Lets Not Take Away Recess

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs

This noncredit, professional development course addresses the critical role of recess and unstructured playtime in student development, learning outcomes, and overall well-being. Based on the principles outlined in No More Taking Away Recess by Ellin Oliver Keene and Nell K. Duke, this noncredit professional development program is designed for educators, with a particular focus on Montessori teachers and administrators. Participants will explore evidence-based strategies to advocate for and implement recess-friendly policies in their schools.

Delivered in an online format, the program combines interactive discussions, readings, case studies, and action-planning exercises to equip educators with practical tools for promoting meaningful play and physical activity. By the end of the course, participants will be empowered to create learning environments that prioritize movement, creativity, and student autonomy without sacrificing academic rigor.

*This is a non-credit certificate.
